When hiring employees, especially off-site workers, streamline the orientation process by sending an e-mail with everything they need to know. Include attachments for formal practices ranging from how to enroll in the company’s 401(k) program to how to request time off, as well as pointers relating to meetings, team collaboration and preferred communication tools.

In addition, send an e-mail checklist to guide newcomers on how to log in to the company’s intranet and access important documents and online resources. Provide a contact list so employees know where to turn with questions about benefits, technology and administrative issues. Conclude with a weekly overview of scheduled meetings and other ongoing responsibilities that relate to the new hire’s position.
