Rather than wait for year-end performance reviews to assess your employees, hold frequent mini-reviews that consist of highlighting one thing the worker does well and one thing he or she needs to improve.

These “1/1 reviews” force you to recognize what’s going right and offer feedback to address what’s going wrong. Even better, invite employees to administer “1/1 reviews” to you in which they isolate something you do well and something you need to improve.
