While having a great résumé is the first step toward finding your dream job, it won’t guarantee it, Karl Malinowski writes on the Simply blog. Here’s what it takes to make the cut.

1.  Writing skills. Show off your written communication prowess by submitting a cover letter and résumé that are grammatically perfect and representative of an overall articulate person.

2.  Leadership ability. Employers like to see that an applicant has volunteered regularly and that he or she takes initiative in the community.

3.  Teamwork. If there are any major accomplishments you’ve done while working as a team, highlight them.
