Federal government employees in Washington, D.C., are spending their lunch hours running—alongside dogs from local animal shelters.
Federal agencies have teamed with the Washington Humane Society to create the People and Animal Cardio Klub (PACK)—a lunchtime workout program for workers and shelter dogs.
PACK paired about 100 federal employees—many from the U.S. Department of Labor, which helped create the club—with dogs waiting to be adopted from local shelters.
Anyone can volunteer to run with the dogs, and some Washington-area private-sector employers are encouraging workers to join the lunchtime activity because of the cardio benefits.
