H&R Block will settle a lawsuit brought by former employees who alleged the tax prep company violated federal and California overtime and meal-period regulations.

A group of mortgage loan officers filed the suit in March 2007, claiming H&R Block’s mortgage loan subsidiaries didn’t pay them for overtime for work they performed off-the-clock. The loan officers were classified as nonexempt employees.

They alleged the company primarily paid them on a commission basis, although their sales managers enforced production quotas by requiring them to work overtime. The loan officers also claimed that H&R Block discouraged them from reporting their overtime work.
