Employees who celebrate 10 years with Kansas City, Mo.-based Lockton Cos. get a big thank-you from company brass: a Rolex watch.

The insurance broker gave away more than 60 of the high-end watches in 2009, according to Communications Director Dean Davison. He says the tradition began in 1976 when the firm celebrated its own 10th anniversary.

Lockton employees, whom their bosses call “associates,” also may participate in a robust professional development program and have a lot of freedom to make decisions and serve their clients as they see fit.

“They are hired for their intelligence; they are hired for their skills; they are hired for their attitude,” Davison says, “and they’re allowed to go and do their jobs without a lot of bureaucratic interference. They’re allowed the time and freedom to serve clients based on the long term.”
