High gas prices have driven many commuters to consider alternative transportation, and many are choosing to get to work on their bicycles. That can be risky business: Bike commuters are vulnerable to inconsiderate motorists, potholes, lousy weather —all manner of hazards that can get the day off to a bad start.

Olmer Morales, of Stuart, recently discovered a new biking peril. While pedaling to work one Saturday morning, a large, blonde woman wearing overalls and a long-sleeved shirt grabbed the handlebars of his bike. Then four more blonde women—outfitted in overalls like the first assailant, but wearing nothing else—surrounded Morales and swiped $100 from his back pocket.

Encouraged by the many onlookers who saw the assault, police officers thought they might quickly catch the bandits. One problem: None of the witnesses was able to recall the women’s faces.
