You handed off an assignment to an employee last week. Now you want to know if everything’s on track, but you don’t want to nag. Three ideas:

1. Ask, “How’s it going?”

2. Mention that the project just became more important because of new developments. Then confirm the deadline.

3. When you first delegate, warn the employee of some potential difficulties. That gives you an opening to follow up by asking, “Have you faced any of those difficulties?”
