Use ‘likeness of thought’ to bond with the boss

Promotions go to those who think and act like senior executives. While you shouldn’t feel obliged to copy their style, you should try to establish “likeness of thought.” This means you and your boss share the same business-related priorities, concerns and biases about what needs to get done.

When you’re aligned with the boss’s views, you can develop mutual trust and work together seamlessly. Caveat: Likeness of thought differs from sameness of thought, where you’re afraid to disagree.
