Never dismiss workers’ ideas or opinions. Even if you disagree or deem their input useless, ignoring them is the ultimate insult. Instead, acknowledge the message in one of three ways:

1. Ask a follow-up question to confirm your understanding or clarify a point.

2. Restate the gist of the message so that the employee nods.

3. Agree with at least some aspect of what you’ve heard.
