Q I’ve been asked by my manager to spend a few weeks training a new hire to do my job. I’m worried this person might be in line to replace me someday, possibly soon. What should I do?

A Respond on two fronts. Teach the trainee everything you know, and talk to your boss about your future. By sharing your knowledge generously, you’ll build trust with the new hire. You’ll want that person as an ally who toots your horn throughout the organization. And by leveling with your manager about your career, you might get a sense of how you can make yourself more valuable.
