The first generation of supermodels is now producing its first business-savvy leaders. Some of their secrets:

1. Overcome rejection. You may think beautiful people face less rejection than the rest of us, but they may face more ... and it’s personal. It’s your chin, your legs or your smile.

“There’s a lot of rejection in modeling and there’s a lot of rejection in business,” says Kathy Ireland, a former Sports Illustrated swimsuit model who now owns a clothing company. “You need to turn down that negative noise and move on.”

2. Study your industry. Tyra Banks, producer of America’s Next Top Model and The Tyra Banks Show, went behind the scenes and learned the trade’s nuts and bolts.

3. Understand the money. Study the organization’s financial footing. In America’s Next Top Model, Banks puts her wannabes through a series of tests. In one episode, she’s horrified when every girl signs a contract without reading it.
