Al Roker wanted to be more than a weatherman, but the NBC meteorologist and Today Show co-host always remembered the advice of his mentor, Willard Scott:
  1. Never give up your day job. “Weather is a wonderful platform from which to do other things,” Roker says. Example: He started a side business 11 years ago and slowly built it into a multimedia company that creates TV programming and markets his books. And he’s still a weatherman at NBC.

  2. Be yourself. “You can be a character, but eventually, it gets tiring,” he says. “But if you just be yourself— for better or for worse—that’s who you are” and you don’t have to worry about playing a role.
