Carlos Ghosn, CEO of Nissan/ Renault, is known as “the icebreaker” because he broke the rules of Japanese business when he served as CEO of Nissan. How did he know what rules to break?

“You should respect the rules,” he says, “as long as they’re not a handicap for your business.” Example: He promoted young, high-potential people faster than the norm because he felt that not doing so would hold Nissan back.
