While observing a well-respected CEO on the job recently, we noticed that he toggled between two distinct modes of using his time:

1. Tight time. For most of the day, he didn’t waste a moment.

Like most high-powered achievers, the CEO stuck to meeting agendas, delegated tasks in a few words and kept his phone conversations minimal.

2. Loose time. At key moments during the day, he would shift dramatically and really connect with people in an unpressured way, even if for only a minute or two. Members of his team sensed the shift and would really open up and enjoy talking with him.
