Formula One Grand Prix drivers, like successful executives, have the passion to reach the top of their professions. Yet, even within this elite group, only a tiny percentage take the winner’s stand.

What makes the difference? Sports psychologist Saul Miller says ace race drivers own these skills:

  • The ability to focus and think clearly in the face of multiple stimuli.
  • The capability to read situations intuitively and act.
  • Quick reaction time.
  • Rapport with the car. Example: World champion Michael Schumacher, unlike many drivers he leaves behind, is known for working within his car’s limitations instead of pushing it to do something it can’t.
