Many leaders today have adopted this ineffective approach to dealing with conflict:

If a handful of people don’t agree with an idea or decision, everyone talks to them until they “come around” and agree (or pretend to, just to get on to the next item).

A better approach: When you’re stalemated, ask for a show of hands, and let the majority rule. Caveat: Let dissenters know that they must work to support the decision, even though they voted against it.
