A survey for a forthcoming book, Business at the Speed of Molasses, found that people feel more motivation, energy and enthusiasm if they think their employer’s core values are “crucial and part of everything we do.”

Here are 9 questions to test the strength of your team’s belief in your organization’s core values:
  1. “What’s our founding mission?”

  2. “Is that purpose still alive?”

  3. “Can you articulate the organizational values that we still follow?”

  4. “Do you enjoy coming to work?”

  5. “Is everybody encouraged to be creative and purpose-driven?”

  6. “Does our organization leave customers and community better than it found them?”

  7. “What do we create that’s more important than products or services?”

  8. “Are we on a mission?”

  9. “Is revenue earned in a way that’s consistent with our values?”
