Q. We’re moving due to my job relocation. My daughter is in college, but we’ll have to move her things from her house during summer break. Can we deduct her moving costs, too? R.W.P., Grand Rapids, Mich.

A. Yes. You can deduct qualified job-related moving expenses for yourself and members of your household. To qualify, you must meet certain time and distance requirements. For this purpose, a member of your household is anyone who has both your old home and the new home as his or her principal residence. Tip: The household member does not necessarily have to be your tax dependent.
