Moroccan native and self-proclaimed radical Sanaa Hamri likes to push boundaries, and she has done just that in directing music videos of pop stars.

According to Hamri, leaders define their own environments while losers succumb to the conditions they find themselves in.

“I really believe that the first philosophy of life [is] you create your reality,” she says. “If you believe it’s going to be difficult for you to do anything, it will be. If you go into a situation with a chip on your shoulder, it’s gonna be hard. If I had that attitude, I would not be where I am.”

Leaders don’t always gain recognition early on, but the cutting-edge nature of this 31-year-old’s work has brought her much praise already, including award nominations for Prince’s Musicology, Mary J. Blige’s Come Close, Heather Headley’s He Is and India.Arie’s Little Things. Hamri is now directing several episodes of Desperate Housewives, as well as a movie.

Bottom line: Push boundaries. It’s the hallmark of a leader.
