What differentiates a legendary leader from a successful one? Passion, says Steve Wozniak. He points to his experience co-founding Apple Computer with Steve Jobs in 1976.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs was never short on vision. Even so, he couldn’t have revolutionized the computer industry without Steve Wozniak.

While Jobs had vision, Wozniak was an engineer: “Me? I just wanted to build the best computer possible. So it was the ideal team because what I could do he couldn’t do, and vice versa.”

Wozniak believes that leaders need to be multiskilled and have complementary strengths, particularly during a company’s lean years.

What Jobs and Wozniak had in common, though, was passion. As he told an audience at Stanford Graduate School of Business, “You are not going to be too successful unless it’s in your heart and is your passion.”
