You’ve got to give points for stamina, no matter the outcome, to 83-year-old Annie Allen, a part-time worker for more than 35 years at John Umstead Hospital in Butner. She’s fighting for her job after being fired earlier this year.

Allen claims her supervisor, Annie Hight, told her she took too long to use the bathroom and said she was too old. Allen earned $11.73 per hour folding sheets and pajamas.

Allen, who is black, filed a race- and age-discrimination complaint in March. The hospital claims it fired Allen for threatening Hight and using abusive language, a charge Allen denies.
