Murder-for-hire isn’t your usual freelance fare, but three California residents who answered a generic ad for “freelance” work were asked to do just that.

The three responded to a job listing on the Craigslist.org web site. Ann Marie Linscott, 49, of Rockford, instructed them in follow-up e-mails to kill a woman living in Oroville, Calif. She offered to pay $5,000 for the hit.

Linscott’s instructions included a description of the intended victim, her age and where she worked.

The responders contacted police. An investigation revealed that Linscott was involved with the intended victim’s husband, whom she met through an online college course.

Linscott pleaded guilty to a federal charge of using interstate commerce in an attempt to cause murder.

Note: Yikes.
