Officials of the California Nurses Association (CNA) have sought a restraining order against members of rival Service Employees International Union (SEIU) in the wake of an attack at a labor conference in Dearborn in April.

CNA Executive Director Rose Ann DeMoro was scheduled to speak at the conference, but canceled when she learned the SEIU was sending busloads of members from Ohio to protest.

The CNA, an affiliate of the AFL-CIO, is locked in a battle with the SEIU to organize nurses in Ohio.

The protesters shoved their way into the meeting and reportedly punched, kicked and shoved attendees. One conference participant was pushed, banged her head against a table and was taken to a hospital with a head wound.

CNA members say SEIU representatives have been stalking and harassing them since SEIU’s organization drive in Ohio failed in March.
