Every summer, male employees of the Henry Ford Health System get the chance to show off their cooking chops at the organization’s “Men Who Cook” fundraiser.

Held at the health system’s flagship hospital in downtown Detroit, the event attracts more employees than any other health system activity.

The system’s male nurses, doctors, security officers and housekeepers cook at about 50 chef stations, and even the hospital’s CEO participates.

Each year has its own theme; this year it’s “Peace, Love and Groovy Food.” The cooks submit their recipes ahead of time for a cookbook that the hospital gives away at the event.

The event raises about $220,000 annually to benefit the Patient Medical Needs Fund.
