Intuit customizes work/Life benefits by location

A traveling mammogram van visits software maker Intuit’s Tucson, Ariz., campus once a year, while a mobile dental office stops at the company’s Mountain View, Calif., campus every week.

“Our approach to perks is more of a convenience for employees by offering different services to them at work so they don’t have to leave the campus,” says Lynette Hamel, the company’s benefits leader.

In addition, the organization covers 100% of preventative care, Hamel says.

Each of the company’s major campuses features different perks, depending on “what’s the most meaningful for that particular population,” says Jim Grenier, the company’s vice president for rewards and workplace.

Employees at the Mountain View site get visits from the local library’s bookmobile, while employees in San Diego and Plano, Texas, make use of on-campus beach volleyball courts during their downtime.

Plus, the firm added backup child care and elder care to all its sites last year. So far, 6% of the company’s 8,000 employees have used it.

“Not only does it save [employees] time, it helps the company because our employees can have a little bit less stress in their lives and be able to focus on the work they need to do,” Grenier says.
