The Florida House of Representatives passed a bill prohibiting employers from banning guns from their properties. HB 503 guarantees employees the right to keep legally owned guns locked inside their cars as long as they have permits to carry concealed weapons.

Florida Chamber of Commerce Vice President David Daniel said he was disappointed with the vote and hoped the bill would not clear the Senate. “I remain hopeful that the senators will choose private property rights over guns at work,” Daniel said.

The AFL-CIO called the bill a victory for workers’ rights. Rich Templin, a spokesman for the union, said HB 503 “is a victory for everyone, because it sends the message that businesses can’t just carve out islands and tell you what your rights are.”
