Sussex County is one of the best places in the Northeast to get ahead, according to a recent list released by

The business magazine web site examined U.S. Census Bureau and Labor Department statistics from 2000 forward for every county in the United States to determine which offered “the best job prospects for the average American.” The survey identified counties with median incomes of at least $75,000 “where people are well-off and getting ahead.” The web site zeroed in on counties where median incomes were rising most quickly, and then it factored in job growth for good measure.

The best prospects for living the American dream turned up in Forsyth County near Atlanta, Stafford County in the Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C., and Delaware County outside Columbus, Ohio. The Washington, D.C., metro area dominated the list.

The lone representative of the Northeast was Sussex County, one of the few counties in the New York metro area where jobs and incomes have been consistently strong since 2000, noted.
