Forsyth County is one of the best places in the country to get ahead, according to a recent list released by

The business magazine web site examined U.S. Census and Labor Department statistics from 2000 forward for every county in the nation to determine which offered “the best job prospects for the average American.”

The survey identified counties with median incomes of at least $75,000, “where people are well-off and getting ahead.” It zeroed in on counties where median incomes were rising most quickly, and then factored in job growth.

The best prospects for living the American dream turned up in Forsyth County, Stafford County in the Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C., and Delaware County, outside of Columbus, Ohio. The Washington, D.C., metro area dominated the list.

The lone representative of the Northeast was Sussex County, N.J., one of the few counties in the New York metro area where jobs and incomes have been consistently strong since 2000, noted.
