Is it a sad sign of the times, or a story as old as time?

David Willis, postmaster for the U.S. Postal Service in Cornelius, has been indicted for soliciting someone to murder his ex-wife so he wouldn’t have to share his pension benefits with her. His ex-wife also works for the Postal Service as a letter carrier.

Willis allegedly asked a friend to hire someone to kill her. Because he conducted some of his scheme via cell phone, he also faces charges of using interstate commerce facilities to commission murder-for-hire.

If convicted, Willis faces up to 30 years in prison and $500,000 in fines.
