A congressional committee recently reported that Blackwater USA, the Moyock-based firm that provides security for U.S. diplomats in Iraq, fired 122 employees over the past three years for violations ranging from the misuse of weapons to alcohol and drug violations, inappropriate conduct and violent behavior. The number constitutes one-seventh of the contractor’s work force in Iraq.

The committee also reported that Blackwater employees have been involved in 195 shooting incidents since 2005; in 80% of those incidents, Blackwater guards fired first.

The report was released just as the FBI was launching an investigation into the actions of Blackwater employees in a Sept. 16 shootout that left 11 Iraqi citizens dead.
