Unemployed Texans will no longer have to cash their checks to use their benefits. The Texas Workforce Commission has partnered with JPMorgan Chase, the state’s largest bank, to provide debit cards for unemployed workers.

Recipients will be able to use the debit cards for purchases or to get cash back. The cards will be accepted anywhere Visa cards are accepted and can be used at automated teller machines to withdraw cash.

The move is expected to save the expense of mailing thousands of checks and will let the unemployed gain access to their benefits sooner.
