Two employees fell while exiting their buildings. One got comp, the other didn’t. Why?
The Workers’ Compensation Commission awarded damages to an employee of Northrop Grumman Corp.
in Rolling Hills after she tripped on a set of stairs. The commission ruled
that since the exit was available exclusively to employees, it posed a hazard unique to employees.
An employee working for Mottl & Smith Office Products of Glenview,
was denied coverage when she fell from a stoop leaving work. In this case the commission found that the cement stoop and door were similar to the exits of many other businesses and residences, and didn’t pose a unique hazard.
