About 60 percent of Michigan residents still receive health insurance through work, but that may not be true for very long. A 2006 Employer Health Insurance Survey conducted by the Michigan State Planning Project for the Uninsured indicates that Michigan employers may have reached the tipping point for rejecting employer-provided health care.

More than 60 percent of the 1,300 Michigan employers surveyed said they believe that offering health insurance has no impact on recruitment or retention.

In the long term, analysts expect health care to go the way of employer-funded pensions, with employees paying more and more and employers administering the plans.
