The director of public relations for Ave Maria College in Ypsilanti may proceed with her whistle-blower lawsuit after an appellate court ruled that the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) counts as a public body under the Whistleblowers’ Protection Act.

The director was fired six months after providing reports to the MDE during an investigation into the college’s financial aid program for law school students.

The college argued that her termination was part of a wind-down of the law school’s Michigan campus, which has dwindled from a staff of 28 to a single employee. Still, the director will have a chance to make her case in court.
