More civility in workplace = fewer lawsuits

Happy employees are far less likely to sue. And the secret to creating happy employees typically isn’t related to more pay or exotic perks. It’s more about creating an atmosphere of trust, appreciation and mutual respect.

Those qualities are lacking in many organizations, according to a recent Florida State University College of Business survey, which found:

  • 39 percent of employees say their supervisor fails to keep promises.
  • 37 percent say their boss fails to give credit when it’s due.
  • 27 percent say their supervisor makes negative comments about them or other employees.
  • 23 percent say their supervisor blames others to cover up his or her mistakes.

Tip: Consider a refresher course on ethics and civility.
