Workers favor PPO, HMO over consumer-Directed plan

Consumer-directed health plans may become all the rage in the future, but they’re slow to catch on so far. A recent survey shows that people with employer-sponsored health coverage are more apt to choose traditional plans over consumer-directed health plans such as health savings accounts.

When employees are offered a choice of plans, 55 percent opt for a PPO, 40 percent select an HMO and 19 percent chose a consumer-driven plan, according to a survey of 2,122 employers by The Center for Studying Health System Change.
