Gov. Perry announced $3 million in grants to five programs aimed at building a skilled work force to meet the needs of Texas' growing biotech and life science industry. The grants are the first awarded under the Meeting Industries' Critical Workforce Needs grant program.

The five recipients include Numedeon, Inc., WorkSource–Greater Austin Area Workforce Board, the Texas Business and Education Coalition, the University of Houston and the San Jacinto College District.

Perry says the grants "will help Texas continue to produce a competitive work force that can lure biotech businesses to our state."
