Psychiatrist Judith Orloff describes intuition as “a still, small voice inside ... an unflinching truth-teller committed to our well-being.”

Take this self-quiz to determine whether you have a connection with your intuitive voice:

1. Do you listen to your gut feelings about people?

    ___ Yes    ___ No

2. Do you pay attention to your body’s early warning signs, such as fatigue, to take care of your health?

    ___ Yes    ___ No

3. Do you listen to the wisdom of your dreams?

    ___ Yes    ___ No

4. When you sense someone is an energy vampire who drains your energy, do you avoid him or her?

    ___ Yes    ___ No

5. In relationships, do you listen to “beware” signs, such as getting a sick feeling in the pit of your stomach?

    ___ Yes    ___ No

6. Do you pay attention to the vibes that people give off, positive and negative?

    ___ Yes    ___ No

7. Do you act on what moves and inspires you rather than only making decisions by what seems right on paper?

    ___ Yes    ___ No

If you answered mostly “yes,” you’re in sync with your intuition. Continue to trust it to make excellent decisions.

If you answered mostly “no,” your intellect could be drowning out your intuitive voice.

Orloff’s recommendation: Learn to access the stillness within. “Spend a few minutes each day devoted to listening to this voice,” she says. “It may appear as a gut feeling, a hunch, an image, a sound, a memory, an instant knowing—as if a light bulb suddenly switched on. Learn to trust the signals your inner wisdom sends.”
