Question: I would like to meet with my peers from our 11 other plants and other persons such as A/P, A/R and any other persons  who may pertain to our job from the corporate office.  We have plants from Delaware and from Illinois to Kentucky.

Apparently, admins don't travel from here (or so I've been told); it isn't part of the job description.

What can I say or do to be able to meet these people? I work with a lot of them every  day and would really like to meet them in person.  I would really like to know the "guts" of the corporation and why I do what I do and if I'm the only one being micro-managed by my super or if it's a corp. thing!

Thank you.  -- Susan

Set up a video conference. If your colleagues have a community college or university in their area, they can probably go there, or check the local libraries. Sometimes Kinko's copies have video conference services as well. We have used video conferencing for interviewing out of town candidates, rather than flying them in, and it works very well.

How about an annual 2 day Retreat, that would include a conference? Tax deductable for the company and a way to network. Somewhere centrally located where all of you might be able to attend? IF that isn't allowed the video conferencing sounds like a good alternative. Maybe something that you could do on a quarterly basis. Be sure to have an Agenda emailed out early so that there is a purpose to the meeting. A 5-10 minute introduction from each person, then a short presentation on a pre-decided topic. Be sure to decide who will chair these meetings so that there is some control on the time. There isn't much expense in that and if your supervisor doesn't "allow" that then I would suspect micro-managing. I hope you can find something that will work.
