Bad noose for airport worker

A construction worker at a rental car facility at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport was fired for hanging a noose at the job site. Co-workers discovered the noose when they came to the job site one morning. Investigators could not determine a motive for the employee’s actions.

The incident is the latest in a spate of similar workplace incidents that have occurred over the past several years. Nooses and other symbols of racial oppression have made a comeback recently, disrupting workplaces and sparking a number of lawsuits nationwide.

Advice: Employers should deal swiftly and fairly with racial hatred incidents.

Investigate promptly while evidence is still fresh, punish the person involved in accordance with company policies and take steps to put the targeted workers at ease.
