A survey of small business leaders performed by California-based TriNet Group says employee morale at small businesses was up or holding steady in the second quarter of 2009, according to 75% of respondents.
Just a quarter reported decreases in employee morale.
In his exuberant announcement of the results, TriNet Group President and CEO, Burton Goldfield, said, “These results prove that employees are happier and more likely to stay with their companies due to the quality of their management. Companies that develop the skills of their leaders boost their employment brand, which then positively contributes to employee morale.”
While the results may in fact “prove” little, they do suggest a certain lightening in the zeitgeist. Perhaps more significantly, 60% of respondents claimed they were recruiting and hiring new employees, compared with just 55% in the first quarter.
