Best-Practices Leadership: Team management tips and fun team-building activities to boost team performance, collaboration and morale

Reinvent yourself, then your company

The price of admission to today’s marketplace is continual reinvention.

Organizations regularly hit “refresh,” or “restart,” so they can develop contingencies before the next crisis hits. But this organizational reinvention can happen only if leaders reinvent themselves. How?

Map out and launch something new outside of the office in a field completely new to you. It should be something that interests you but in which you are clueless or weak.

Example: Help a member of your family run a small business, launch a volunteer group at work or spearhead a sorely needed community project. These will exercise your brain and expose you to new things.

As an alternative, consciously complicate your life with new exposures. Go to a trade show in a field you don’t know, or trade jobs for a week with a colleague at a noncompetitive company. Most of all: Do it now.
