I earned my Project Management Professional designation (PMP) back in 2001. I started out interested in the Project Management overview course offered by my local college - I wanted to better understand the team I was supporting and what "project management" was all about. It was so interesting, I took the entire course and went on to sit (and pass) the PMP exam! As a result of this success, I was motivated to earn my designations as a Certified Professional Secretray (CPS) and a Certified Administrative Professional (CAP.) Continuous learning and professionalism can never be wrong for an admin professional! Yes, the skills of Project Management are rising higher and higher on the list of "must haves" for many admin positions. But whether you want to redirect your admin career towards project management (as a project coordinator, a planner/schedule, etc.) or you just want to understand what is going on around, this sort of training is excellent - for your personal growth and for your resume!

Are there any less expensive alternatives for obtaining the training and certifications for Project Management? PMP is terribly expensive and at this point my employer is not willing to pay for it.
