Yeah, I'd like to know this, too. My boss had put me in charge of diversity training, and has struck down all ideas I've had. I'm not trained in this, but have brought up different chambers in town, like the Hispanic Chamber, the Urban League, etc. and he doesn't like those because they cost too much to join. Any ideas, folks? I can't bear something frivolous like a Cinco de Mayo day with Mexican food. Please send only valid diversity training ideas. My sanity depends on it.

We started a "Diversity Committee" as well with all manager type committee members. We weren't quite sure where to start, so we actually brought in some of our hourly associates to serve on the committee as well. We all learned things about different cultures and chose different times of the year to share those cultures, i.e., Martin Luther King Day for one example. We let our associates totally organize this event---a HUGE success! Everyone learned something and it brought the associates closer together. We do different things throughout the year....all at the suggestion and organization by the associates. This helps them to feel empowered and it helps all associates, even management to learn diversity.

I recently attended my company's "Understanding Diversity" workshop. The moderator was a teacher from our local community college, who has many years experience assisting companies with diversity issues.
Perhaps you can contact your local community college/university to see if they have something similiar.
