The Office Organizer: 10 tips on file organizing, clutter control, document management, business shredding policy, record retention guidelines and how to organize office emails

The 3 ‘bones’ you need to lead

Once an earthquake had destroyed his company’s Chatsworth, Calif., headquarters in 1994, Myron Jones had the chance to watch his division chiefs in action.

He found it startling how much more “broad-minded” women were in solving problems.

As a result, the president of NMB Technologies, a manufacturer of precision mechanical and electrical components, has increased his percentage of women senior managers from 40 percent to 50 percent.

Jones uses these three “bones” as his tests of leadership:
  1. Backbone is essential in every job, not just top positions, because leaders have to trust their people to do what they believe is right.

  2. Funny bones keep people loose.

  3. Your wishbone may be the most important bone of all. Leaders need a vision of the future to keep people moving forward.
