in Business Etiquette,Workplace Communication

Tempers are flaring at work more often these days. About half of U.S. workers report yelling at a colleague this year, reports the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.

How should you handle a co- worker’s “desk rage”? Deb Rinner, director of corporate etiquette programs at Tero International Inc., tells the Des Moines Register: “Observe, Interpret, Evaluate”:

Observe:
Stay calm enough to reflect on what happened.

Interpret: Think of five possible reasons for the blowup.

Evaluate: Choose the most likely reason and approach the issue from that angle.
