When networking for jobs, don’t present yourself as a victim (of a two-faced boss, a hapless organization, a shrinking client base, etc.). Telling a cynical story about your current career crossroads will drive away the very people you need as allies. Instead, focus on your excitement level in branching out to embrace new challenges. Discuss how you want to build on your experience and sharpen skills that you haven’t had a chance to develop.
