Know Your Objectives

Q. In my job hunt, I often run into folks who ask me what kind of position I seek. I have a precise answer: I’m looking for a job as employee benefits manager in an HR department or a big consulting firm. How, does that sound?

A. It sounds fine. But why limit yourself? It’s too restrictive to target an exact type of job. It’s better to leave yourself open to more possibilities. You might say, “I want to help companies and employees find the right mix of employee benefits programs.” You may learn about more openings or generate more leads that way.
