Leading principles from Rudy Giuliani

by on
in Best-Practices Leadership,Leaders & Managers

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani had been working on a book about leadership for months. Then, within hours of the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center, Giuliani summoned up these principles:
  • Prepare relentlessly.
  • Surround yourself with great people.
  • Have beliefs and communicate them.
  • See things for yourself.
  • Set a good example.
  • Stand up to bullies.
  • Deal with first things first.
  • Underpromise and overdeliver.
  • Don’t assume a damn thing.
  • Remember that loyalty is a vital virtue.
  • Treat funerals as mandatory attendance events.
— Adapted from Leadership, Rudolph W. Giuliani, Hyperion.
